A Dual-Polarized Reconfigurable Reflectarray Antenna Based on a Symmetrically Rotated Sub-Array

This paper proposes a novel method for designing dual-polarized reconfigurable reflectarray antenna (RRA) based on symmetrically rotated sub-array operating in single-band. To improve aperture efficiency and prevent grating lobes, miniaturized unit cell of rectangular ring patch with size $0.3\lambda _{0}$ is adopted, where the notation="LaTeX">$\lambda wavelength free-space center frequency 10 GHz. By employing RRA sub-array, significant suppression cross-polarization level (CPL) slight enhancement peak gain are both achieved. The metasurface 164 elements assembled using feeding structure optimized F/D = 0.52. beam steerable electronically controlled by control board has wide steering range up to ± 60 ° . high efficiencies 26.2% 27.0%, relatively low CPLs −22.6 −22.8 dB notation="LaTeX">$x$ - notation="LaTeX">$y$ -polarized beams were measured, respectively. Furthermore, extended functions presented RRA, such as dual-beam circular polarized steering, confirmed full-wave simulation.
